Progressive Democrats might be hoping that the abortion issue will help their party limp across the finish line on Election Day.
In reality, however, several other pressing issues are playing out in the GOP’s favor.
Polls have consistently shown Republicans to be in a prime position to reclaim a majority on Capitol Hill after the midterm elections.
One new survey from Fox News lays out precisely why Democrats seem doomed to defeat:
The top two concerns for voters are the future of the country and inflation.
They also appear ready to oust the incumbent party in this fall’s elections, with 39% favoring the Democratic candidate in their House district and 46% backing the Republican, if voting today.
That 7-point advantage is up from 2 points last month and is the largest Republicans have held this year. Fox News models suggest this would be a 44-seat swing in the House and an 11-seat swing in the Senate.
“The congressional ballot numbers are highly correlated with changes in the partisan distribution of seats,” says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the Fox News Poll with Democratic pollster Chris Anderson. “They may bounce around quite a bit in the next few months, but if we see a 7-point Republican advantage in the national vote this fall, we’re going to see a wave election for the GOP.”
It might come as no surprise to most Americans that economic concerns and outrage over a far-left social agenda are at the front of many voters’ minds.

Joe Biden is increasingly on the receiving end of the blame for both issues.
As CNN explained:
That pessimism also reflects on President Joe Biden, whose ratings for handling the economy remain sharply negative. A majority of US adults say his policies have hurt the economy, and 8 in 10 say the government isn’t doing enough to combat inflation.
Only 23% rate economic conditions as even somewhat good, down from 37% in December and 54% last April. The last time public perception of the economy was this poor in CNN’s polling was November 2011, when 18% called economic conditions good.
Americans also say they are more likely to hear bad news than good news about the economy, by nearly a 4-to-1 margin: 89% say they’ve heard at least some bad news, compared with 23% who’ve heard at least some good news.
As usual, Biden is attempting to pass the buck to anyone he can.
