Many fans of Donald Trump are anxious to see him back in the White House.

At least one of his most ardent supporters, however, has another powerful D.C. position in mind.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) recently reiterated his plan to nominate Trump for speaker of the House of Representatives if the GOP regains control of the chamber after the upcoming midterms.

The 45th president invited Gaetz to address the crowd at a rally on Saturday.

Florida Politics provided the details:

If Republicans take the House in 2022, expect former President Donald Trump to be in play to be Speaker.

That was the vow reaffirmed Saturday night at a Trump rally in Commerce, Georgia.

Matt Gaetz, who represents Florida’s 1st Congressional District, was the sole out-of-state politician on a stage that included Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and other Trump-adjacent candidates.

“Give us the ability to fire Nancy Pelosi, take back the majority, and impeach Joe Biden, and I’m going to nominate Donald Trump for Speaker of the United States House of Representatives,” Gaetz said to cheers.

Of course, Gaetz isn’t the only prominent Republican to express support for such an idea.

Even though Trump is not an elected member of Congress, he could still be named House speaker.

The Washington Examiner explained:

Trump shook Gaetz’s hand before thanking him and acknowledging his potential nomination.

“Well, that was interesting,” Trump said.

The Constitution does not require that the speaker of the House be an elected member of Congress. However, Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Brendan Boyle introduced a bill last July that would require the speaker to be an elected member. The bill died in the House Committee on Rules.

Here’s a video clip of Gaetz’s remarks at the recent Trump rally.

Do you believe Trump would make a great House speaker?
